Did you know that YouTube is one of the world's most popular search engines?

In fact, it's second only to Google.

With over 1 billion active users, there's a lot of potential for making money on YouTube.

But it's not as simple as uploading a few videos and waiting for the cash to start rolling in.

If you want to make money on YouTube, you need to understand the platform and how it works. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. The algorithm is key
  2. You need to produce high-quality content
  3. Video length matters
  4. Ads aren't the only option
  5. Use other platforms to promote your channel

The Algorithm is Key to Making Money on YouTube

The YouTube algorithm is a set of rules that determines how videos are ranked on the site.

It's key to success on YouTube, as it determines which videos are shown first and which ones are buried.

In order to make money on YouTube, it's important to understand how the algorithm works and how to optimize your videos for it.

The algorithm takes into account a variety of factors, including:

  • How often a video is viewed
  • The number of likes and dislikes a video has
  • The time people spend watching a video (engagement)
  • The number of shares a video has
  • The age of the video

There are a number of factors, as seen above, but the most important one is engagement.

This means that the more people who watch and like your video, the higher it will rank.

You need to produce high-quality content

Starting off you don't need a high-end camera or editing software, but you do need to make sure your videos are of good quality.

You also need to make sure your content is interesting and relevant to your audience.

Again, you don't need to be a professional filmmaker to create quality content - just make sure that you're genuinely interested in what you're talking about, and that you put some effort into making your videos look good.

Take the time to determine what your audience wants to watch and produce videos that fit those criteria.

In order to make money on YouTube, you need to be patient.

Making money on YouTube doesn't happen overnight. It takes time and effort to produce high-quality videos that people will want to watch.

Don't get discouraged if your videos don't gain traction right away.

Keep producing content that people will enjoy and the money will come in time

Video length matters

As a general rule, the longer the video, the more engagement it will get.

This doesn't mean you need to produce hour-long videos, but making videos that are at least 5 minutes long will give you a better chance of ranking high in the algorithm.

The first 30 seconds of a video are the most important, so make sure to hook viewers in quickly!

People are busy and don't want to watch a video that drones on and on without getting to the point. Make sure your videos are concise and to the point, with no fluff.

Ads aren't the only option

If you want to make money on YouTube, you don't have to rely solely on ads.

You can also make money by selling products or services through your videos, more commonly called affiliate marketing.

For this, you'll need to create videos that promote a specific product or service.

Then, in the video itself and in the description, you'll include a link to where people can buy the product.

Be sure to disclose that you're making money from the sale - otherwise, you could get in trouble with the FTC.

Use other platforms to promote your channel

In order to make money on YouTube, you need people to watch your videos.

One way to do this is by promoting your channel on other platforms.

Two of my favorite organic traffic methods to driving visitors to my YouTube are through Instagram and TikTok.

Both of these platforms are growing rapidly and present a great opportunity to reach new viewers.

Do you want to start making money on YouTube?

If you want to make money on YouTube, it’s important that you understand how the platform works.

The algorithm is key – and if you can produce high-quality content, your videos are more likely to rank higher and be seen by more people. Video length also matters – shorter videos have a better chance of being watched all the way through than longer ones.

And don’t forget about ads – they aren’t the only option for monetizing your channel.

Use other platforms to promote your channel and drive traffic back to your YouTube page.

So, how do you plan on making money on YouTube?

It starts with understanding how the platform works.
